The Dominican Nun Congregation Records consist of approximately 4 linear feet (10 archival boxes) of records documenting Dominican contemplative women's monasteries associated with the Province of St. Albert the Great and Dominican monasteries elsewhere in the United States. The materials date from 1871 to 2019. The collection documents the development of monasteries, relationships between monasteries and the Province, the religious and institutional life of the communities, individual members, vocation efforts, publications, and changes in the location or status of monasteries.

The records are organized principally by monastery and geographic location. Within individual monastery groupings, materials are arranged according to a standardized classification that includes histories, photographs, correspondence, vocation literature, commemorative booklets, newsletters, records concerning members of the monastery, customaries and directories, and publications. The collection is divided into series containing records of monasteries within the Province, foundation projects, and monasteries in the United States outside the Province. The records of monasteries outside the Province comprise approximately 0.8 linear feet in two document boxes.

The "Monasteries within the Province" series includes records from monasteries in Farmington Hills, Michigan; La Crosse, Wisconsin; Lufkin, Texas; Marbury, Alabama; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Ortonville, Michigan. Materials include monastery histories, photographs, correspondence, newsletters, vocation literature, records concerning members, publications, and other materials documenting the communities.

The "Foundation Projects" subseries documents efforts to establish new Dominican monasteries. Materials concerning the proposed Monastery of the Incarnation include a history, project correspondence dating from 1953–1964, proposed constitutions from 1955, and replies concerning a premature announcement of the project from August–November 1956. The subseries also includes correspondence concerning a proposed monastery at the former Winona Novitiate in 1970. That material documents discussions between Dominican nuns and members of the Province, including Fathers Clement Collins and Paul Hinnesbusch, O.P., concerning the use of the former St. Peter Martyr Priory and Novitiate for a new foundation.

The "Monasteries in the U.S. Outside the Province" series includes records from monasteries in numerous locations, including Albany, Buffalo, Camden, Catonsville, Cincinnati, Elmira, Lancaster, Los Angeles, Menlo Park, Newark, Summit, Syracuse, Union City, and Washington, D.C. The records primarily consist of correspondence between members of the Province, most often the Provincial, and the respective monasteries and monastery newsletters.

The collection also contains records concerning individual Dominican nuns. These include biographical and autobiographical publications, correspondence, and other material relating to particular members. Of particular note are records concerning Sister Mary Reparata Rose, O.P., of the Dominican Monastery of the Holy Name in Cincinnati, including a 1932 autobiography and a two-volume 1972 publication concerning her life and cause for sainthood.

The collection contains a small amount of audiovisual material comprised of a single audiocassette containing “8 Resp. Psalms and 2 Hymns – Nuns of Buffalo.” Such materials require appropriate audiovisual playback equipment for access.
