Sacred Vessels

 Collection
Identifier: SV

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a variety items used for Catholic sacramental or liturgical purposes. It is composed primarily of chalices, patens, and cruets, along with glass and other non-metallic ceremonial objects. The collection is systematically organized across archival shelving and boxed storage to ensure preservation.

The metallic objects, including 42 chalices, 16 patens, 5 altar crucifixes, a ciborium, and other sacred vessels, are stored within the main archival storage to minimize tarnishing and corrosion. Items such as cruets (11 total), pyxes (6), oil sticks (6), and rosary belts are included among the holdings, along with a lunette and an altar stone without a relic.

The glass and other non-tarnishable materials, including cruets, lavabo trays, and additional sacred objects, are stored separately to prevent potential damage from contact with metal objects. Items with detachable parts, such as cruet tops and a chalice lid, are noted and stored accordingly to ensure preservation.
