St. Hyacinth House, 1961-1971
Scope and Contents
This collection covers 66 subgroups, each representing a location served by friars within the Province. Each house or priory is listed under their location, while areas that they worked with through missions or stations are also listed but connected to their house of residence.
“Houses” are arranged alphabetically by the city in which they are located, each city constituting a distinct Subgroup. Within a Subgroup each foundation constitutes a distinct Series. Each Series is designated by letters in alphabetical order as needed.
Houses that do not have a Series associated with them either do not have any records associated with them or were fillial houses of other foundations. Historical information for each house is provided by Provincial Catalogus or internal historical writings.
The collection covers xx boxes.

Biographical / Historical
The church and school were built on land donated by the Bush Estate in northwest Amarillo. Sam Houston Middle School and a Quonset hut behind the Veteran’s Hospital were used for services until the school building was completed. One of the rooms of the school building was used for worship services until the parish was able to build a church. On May 9, 1962, the dedication of the new church took place. The parish was staffed by priest and sisters of the Dominican Order and the Extension Society of Lay Teachers from 1960-1971. The school was closed in 1967 due to the closing of Amarillo Air Force Base which had a direct bearing on student enrollment. The Friars left the parish in 1971 and returned it to the Diocese which still manages it today.
