Identifier: Series A

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection covers 66 subgroups, each representing a location served by friars within the Province. Each house or priory is listed under their location, while areas that they worked with through missions or stations are also listed but connected to their house of residence.

“Houses” are arranged alphabetically by the city in which they are located, each city constituting a distinct Subgroup. Within a Subgroup each foundation constitutes a distinct Series. Each Series is designated by letters in alphabetical order as needed.

Houses that do not have a Series associated with them either do not have any records associated with them or were fillial houses of other foundations. Historical information for each house is provided by Provincial Catalogus or internal historical writings.

Biographical / Historical

Blessed Sacrament Parish was established in February 1922. Originally intended to be built near what is now Edgewood College, the parish relocated to its current campus on Rowley and Allen due to concerns about boundaries and census data. The current gym initially served as both the church and school and the current church was dedicated in 1935. The parish has witnessed several renovations and expansions over the years, including the construction of a new school building and the remodeling of the sanctuary. The parish also ministered to students at both Edgewood and UW-Madison, although not through the official Newman Center.

The Dominican Friars served as pastors of the parish at its establishment alongside the presence of the Sinsinawa Dominican sisters, who contributed to the school and staff. The Friars ended 102 years of ministry in 2024 and left the parish in June of that year, giving ministry of the parish to the Diocese of Madison and the Schoenstatt Fathers.
